因傷缺戰4個月，Maria Sharapova復出有個好的開始，布里斯班網賽首輪以6-3、6-0輕取法國選手Caroline Garcia，輕鬆晉級下一輪。

這是俄羅斯美女自八月辛辛那提站賽事後首度於賽場亮相，她因為肩傷不得不退出戰場，她說：「我厭倦了休兵期，而我已經準備好了！」

面對20歲的 Garcia，以及新教練Sven Groeneveld監督下，花了39分鐘拿下第一盤的Sharapova，第二盤勢如破竹，很快來到3-0領先，後3局也乾淨俐落橫掃對方。

「我錯過了比賽，我想從這裡出發。」Sharapova賽後表示，希望能有良好的表現，而自己正努力朝這個方向在走。

Sharapova下一輪的對手已經出爐，她要面對以6-3、7-5擊敗Daniela Hantuchova的澳洲選手Ashleigh Barty。她說：「這是另一場硬仗，她已四度參賽，對她來說是一個優勢。」

若要與當今世界排名第一的Serena Williams遭遇，Sharapova必須挺進到四強，屆時才是一場嚴苛的考驗。
