不論是系統或是顯示卡使用的記憶體英文皆為Memory,全名為Dynamic Random Access Memory動態隨機存取記憶體,簡稱為DRAM。記憶體運作時與硬碟使用磁性技術不同,是使用電容內儲存的電荷多寡,來代表每個位元(bit)代表為1或是0。雖然理論上是如此,實作上還是會有電容還是會有漏電現象,除非電容周期性地充放電,否則記憶體內的資料(電荷)會在幾毫秒內漏光。
