紐約時報：美國不會為了香港和中國翻臉

「雨傘革命」在香港遍地開花，美國總統歐巴馬(Barack Obama)也曾表示，會密切留意「佔中」運動，歐巴馬將在下月到中國出席亞太經合組織(APEC)領導人會議，外界高度關切歐巴馬是否到時會為香港民主發聲，但《紐約時報》今天卻潑了冷水，認為美國不會為了香港局勢，影響與中國的關係。

報導引述美國政府高層官員消息，自1989年「六四」事件後，人權問題在中美對話中，一直不是主要課題。白宮無意改變歐巴馬的訪華計畫，因為中國已清楚表明，香港事務屬於中國內政，不會受到美國左右。

因此，針對香港警方使用催淚彈鎮壓和平示威者，在美國駐港領事館發表的聲明中，也只是呼籲雙方克制，並未提到示威者爭取「真普選」的意願。聲明中更強調，在香港的政治發展討論中，美國不會選擇站在任何一邊。（於慶中／綜合外電報導）
